  • Twynstra Gudde's André Schaminée publishes new book on design thinking

Many contemporary social problems cannot be solved with traditional approaches, so it's no wonder that public organizations are increasingly looking for new and promising approaches such as design thinking, which is people-oriented and helps view problems in a new way. However, the way in which public organizations operate in practice is not always in sync with the ways of working, techniques, and mentality of design thinking.

In order for the collaboration between designers and public organizations to be successful, we must recognize that there are huge differences in how people think about change, cooperation, and power. If we don't, design thinking will not have the desired impact.

In this book, André Schaminée introduces the art of context building - creating and maintaining the right context within public organizations for a thorough yet manageable design thinking process. In the first part of the book he introduces change management, coalition formation, stakeholder management, and power from a design perspective in clear chapters. In the second part of the book, André explains how in four phases of the design process the right context can be created for an impactful design process with and within public organizations.

André Schaminée has been associated with Twynstra Gudde since 2007. There he set up a design department together with Jaap Warmenhoven and Tabo Goudswaard. André helped dozens of organizations solve tough issues and strategic tasks. As one of the first, he made a connection between design practice and organizational science. André is trained as a planner, has set up two record companies. As a guest lecturer, he is a regular guest at art academies, Design Academy Eindhoven, universities, Nyenrode Business School, Neerlands Diep and the Alderman Association.

The book 'Designing with and within Public Organizations' can be ordered via Amazon or the BIS Publishers website.
